Kickin' It Old School Disney Channel!

A friend from a Disney fan group over on the Book brought up a great point today about how Nick and Cartoon Network have alternative cable networks to air their old content. We were all lamenting the great programming of the Disney Channel of old.

Especially now in the age of On-Demand entertainment and 17,000 channels per cable service, why Disney hasn't come up with some kind of Classic programming network is a mystery. They've got all this great material just sitting in their proverbial vault collecting dust. Get it out here! Us "old fogies" are the ones that want to see the stuff, and we're also the ones spending money on their advertisers. It's a win-win for them. But for whatever reason, what seems like such a simple and brilliant idea goes unheard by the powers that be for now.

And we get more of these canned-laughter tween sitcoms that make Full House look like Downton Abbey. Excruciating programming slapped together just to push the next Hannah Montana or whatever pop-flavor of the year. I love watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake & the Neverland Pirates in the morning with my kids, but after that, with the exception of Phineas & Ferb, there's little worth watching on the modern Disney Channel.

It's a shame that the network was at it's best 20+ years ago. I wish they'd offer even just a two hour block during the day where they could run old programming. I'm talking about the good stuff from my youth. Good Morning Mickey, Dtv, Mousercise (ok, maybe not that one - as you'll see below it's pretty dated), Adventures in Wonderland, Pooh Corner, Dumbo's Circus (a favorite of many 30 & 40 -somethings!) And don't forget the Disney Afternoon lineup. Ducktales, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, and Tailspin! And there are countless others. Even rerunning the MMC (yes, even the one from the 80's and 90's.) Plus all the great movies that used to run on ABC! Plus the classic Walt Disney Presents and Wonderful World of Color. There are so many options. I know I'd rarely turn it off. I just have to hear that little melody that played on the bumpers between programs and I get chills. You remember . . . this one . . .

Did that jog your memory? Wake up your inner child and give you a little tingle? Alright then, let's take a little stroll down television memory lane!
